Stephens County Hospital Purchases C-Arm

8/18/2009

Stephens County Hospital will purchase a replacement piece of equipment to help in a number of areas.

Monday, the Hospital Authority approved the purchase of a new C-arm.

Hospital Administrator Ed Gambrell said it is called a C-arm because it is shaped like the letter “C.”

Gambrell said it has many uses.

“This particular piece of equipment is used in surgery in certain areas,” said Gambrell. “However, it is also used for other patients. I broke my arm in December and they used the C-arm on me to see if my bone was set correctly.”

Stephens County Hospital has traditionally had two of these machines. However, one broke last month and Gambrell said the hospital needs to have two in order to accommodate all of the different areas it helps with.

The new C-arm will cost just over $129,000.
