STEPHENS COUNTY HOSPITAL'S MAMMOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT RECEIVES ACCREDITATION
The American College of Radiology (ACR) has accredited the GE Senographe DS Full Field Digital Mammography System at Stephens County Hospital. The three-year accreditation was awarded for the achievement of high practice standards based on a peer-review consisting of board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field of mammography. The qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of the equipment are both assessed. The surveyors report their findings to ACR's Committee on Accreditation, which provided a comprehensive report to the Hospital.
Stephens County Hospital's mammography services are administered by women who are registered radiologic technologists with advanced certification in mammography. Mammography images are studied and interpreted by radiologists who are board certified by the American College of Radiology.
The mammography department also received their annual inspection by the Food and Drug Administration with no findings. Annual inspections are based upon standards that are set by the Food and Drug Administration and the American College of Radiology.
The American Cancer Society continues to recommend mammography as the best way to find breast cancer early.
