New ER doctors March 31
Ross Willis - Toccoa
Record
Stephens County Emergency Physicians, Inc. will take over the supplying
of emergency room doctors for Stephens County Hospital on March
31.
The announcement came during the Stephens County Hospital Authoritys
regular meeting Monday.
Currently, PhyAmerica (formerly Coastal) contracts with the local
hospital to furnish emergency room physicians to that facility.
However, starting March 31, the newly formed Stephens County Emergency
Physicians, Inc. will take over that role.
The authority voted unanimously during a regular meeting earlier
this year to start its own physician staffing service.
Hospital administrator Ed Gambrell said that by taking over the
staffing from outside sources, Stephens County Hospital will have
greater control over which doctors it contracts with and thereby
improve the quality of care in the emergency room.
After March 31, when Stephens County Emergency Physicians,
Inc. begins furnishing our ER doctors, we will add some new doctors
to our emergency room, Gambrell said.
Of the physicians that are currently staffing our emergency
room, two of them will continue on with us, although that is not
official as of yet. That is a preliminary estimation, and we do
not know that for certain right now, though, he said.
As part of its creation of Stephens County Emergency Physicians,
Inc., the hospital authority decided that the board of directors
for that corporation would consist of the Stephens County Hospital
Authority members themselves.
In other business:
Hospital quality improvement director Tina DeBord told authority
members that the Joint Commissions patient safety goals are
in the process of being implemented.
DeBord also said that the hospital is well on the way toward compliance
with the new federally mandated HIPPA laws regarding patient privacy.
She said that all hospitals have four more months to come into
complete compliance with the new laws and that she is confident
that Stephens County Hospital will meet the deadline.
