Gambrell retires from Stephens
County Hospital
After thirty-eight years, Jean Gambrell has decided to call it quits.
Or at least slow down a bit.
In December of 1967, Jean Gambrell was employed by Stephens County
Hospital in the Operating Room. By July of 1968, she had been promoted
to OR Supervisor. Jean retired as the Surgical Services Nurse Manager,
which includes responsibility for the Surgical floor, Outpatient
Surgery, Recovery Room and the Operating Room. Connie Rice, RN has
been named as Jean’s replacement.
“I’ll be around if I’m needed,” says Jean.
On display among family photos and gifts,
were photos of Mrs. Gambrell’s graduation from nursing school.
According to Faye Taylor, the caption “a lady of few words
but don’t worry,
she’ll get by” was under Mrs. Gambrell’s yearbook photo. “I
would say she did quite well. Jean always had the patients’ best interest
in mind. A real advocate for change. She was always looking for a better
way to get things done,” says Taylor during her presentation to Mrs.
Gambrell.
A retirement reception was held in Jean’s honor on Tuesday,
July 12th in the hospital cafeteria where she was honored by family, co-workers,
physicians and other hospital retirees. She resides in Habersham County with
her husband, Joe Mendel Gambrell.
