ACHIEVES CERTIFIED DIABETES EDUCATOR STATUS
The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE)
announced that Vivian Key, a registered nurse and the Patient Education
Coordinator at Stephens County Hospital has achieved Certified Diabetes
Educator status by successfully completing the Certification Examiniation
for Diabetes Educators. Candidates must meet rigouous education
and professional practice experience requirements to be eligible
to take the examination. A major role of diabetes education is teaching
patients how to manage their disease. There are currently more than
12,300 diabetes educators who hold the CDE credential.
Vivian began her nursing career as a graduate of the Emory University
School of Nursing followed by four years of active duty in the Navy
Nurse Corps stationed in Virginia and California. Her past clinical
experience includes six years in the Open Heart Unit at Emory University
Hospital in Atlanta and five years in the Intensive Care Unit at
Stephens County Hospital. Along the way, Vivian was also a clinical
instructor for both North Georgia College's RN Program in Dahlonega
and North Georgia Technical College's LPN Program in Clarkesville.
Vivian's daughter, Stephanie K. Steele, is also a Registered Nurse
and works in the Pediatric Unit at Stephens County Hospital.
