TOCCOA, GA - Nurses and hospital staff at Stephens County Hospital gathered in the hospital cafeteria on Wednesday morning for a breakfast reception to recognize Anne Rogers, RN as the 2007 Nurse Hero. “It’s our way of recognizing the efforts and contributions of the nursing staff who give their time and talent to help our patients recover”, said Faye Taylor, Director of Nursing. “This is an annual event where the entire nursing staff make nominations based on a specific set of criteria.”

After introducing the hospital’s seven nominees for the year’s top nurse, Taylor shared several comments from follow nurses and managers submitted during the nomination process. Among them were that she “always provides a positive image for nursing” and “always double checks the patients chart to make sure new orders are implemented – even if she has to stay over”.

Rogers is a registered nurse on the Medical floor and has been employed at Stephens County Hospital for thirteen years. Says Rogers, “I feel so honored – I believe I work surrounded by heroes.” Other nominees include: Josh Gastley, RN (Intermediate Care), Elizabeth Hughes, RN (Surgical & Nursing Administration), Lois Whitlock, LPN (Obstetrics), Sandra Vandiver, RN (Obstetrics), Jennifer Bennett, RN (Intensive Care) and Katherine Deanes, RN (Emergency Room).

The Nurse Hero award is presented as part of the Hospital’s celebration of National Nurse Week held May 6-12 and designated to recognize the contributions of the nursing profession to their communities.
